Coffee and Conversation

STYLE started a new community group on Thursday, 25th November 2021 which ran for a 6-week period to the end of December.  'Coffee and Conversation' was an Ambition for Ageing project delivered by STYLE in partnership with GMCVO (Greater Manchester Centre for Voluntary Organisation) and funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.  The aim of the project was to provide opportunities for people aged 50 and over living in the St James Ward to socialise, although it is open to all.   Funding included refreshments, a Christmas meal, an outdoor table/seating area, 2 heaters and various craft items and games

However, attendees welcomed and valued the group so we decided to continue.   The group has increased in number and we have received funding grants from Action Together to enable members to enjoy some activities in the local area (pantomime, cinema, restaurant meal and afternoon tea) and to provide hot food during the colder months in early 2023 to help alleviate the cost of living crisis.  The hot food and lunches continues along with delicious cakes, tea and coffee, a warm room and companionship.  The group agreed to charge a £2 weekly donation towards the cost of refreshments.

Occasionally, St Thomas Hand-bell ringing group has entertained us with songs/Carols to sing a long to and offer a try out at the ringing.  These afternoons are heartily enjoyed by all.  Sometimes we hold a raffle, have a game of play your cards right, a bit of crafting, a quiz but it's all free and easy.

We meet 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. every Thursday in St Thomas Community Hall lounge on Northgate Lane.  All welcome.

Come along for a laugh, lunch, a brew and a cake, a chat and lively company.  All are welcome.
